Philips Lumea Prestige SC2008 Review

Philips Lumea SC2008 being used in the Bikini Area

Philips Lumea SC2008 Review Summary

This is a great investment in hair removal because once you start using this, you really don’t need to worry about hair removal very often. After the initial fortnightly use period, the usage required drops right down to monthly or 6 weekly and you’ll be beautifully hair-free for all those beachy summers.

The price is easy to justify over the five or so year lifespan that this product has; no more waxing, shaving or epilating let alone any salon sessions for IPL. However, if you’re really keen on the IPL way of hair removal, it could be a better investment to get the SC2009 version, just one version up from this but with almost double the lifespan. The cost is only slightly higher but it’ll last almost twice as long – interested? See the SC2009 here.

A great all-round IPL system...

This Philips Lumea Prestige is a great all-round IPL system that’s near the top of its league. It comes with all the attachments to remove hair from the entire body and has five different light settings.

With IPL systems that are for use not just on the legs and stomach, but also for sensitive areas where the skin is more fragile such as the bikini area and face, it’s crucial to have a range of light intensity settings and specific filters. The Philips Lumea Prestige SC2008 has five light intensity settings and extra filters within the facial attachment to prevent any damage caused to more fragile skin cells.

Excellent on the legs, face, and bikini area...

The bikini attachment is designed specifically to hand small, precise areas but also areas where hair is thicker than hair elsewhere on the body. For facial, underarm and bikini areas you can easily switch to one of the Lumea’s two modes, the Step and Flash mode. This mode enables specific, targeted treatments to hard to reach areas.

The other mode included in this Lumea Prestige is the Slide and Flash mode. This works excellently on legs where the area is smooth and you can treat large areas much faster, simply by sliding the attachment along. Thanks to this and the body attachment’s 4cm window, you should be able to complete one entire lower leg in just 8 minutes.

With integrated UV filters, this Philips Lumea is safe to use anywhere on the body and it’s cordless, so it’s even more straightforward. With an impressive 370 flashes available on a full charge, you should be able to use this for several sessions before charging. Charge time is 100 minutes, which is also pretty short and sweet.

The downside is the lifespan compared to its sibling...

The downside of this Philips Lumea Prestige SC2008 is that compared to its sibling, the Philips Lumea Prestige SC2009, it only has 140,000 flashes in its entire lifetime. While this is good for four or five years, the entire system will then need replacing.

There are pros and cons to this lifespan. On the plus side, in a few years IPL technology may be even better than it is now and when this SC2008 runs out you’ll have the perfect excuse to invest in a newer model. However, these are expensive, and if you’re going to be spending this much on a hair removal system, perhaps you’re better off looking at the Philips Lumea Prestige SC2009 version with its 250,000 flashes. That’s a huge amount more life to it for very little price difference.
